The best nights sleep I’d had in ages! I usually can’t sleep after an orchestra rehearsal I find my body is still in playing mode and usually end up lying in bed mentally repeating the session I just had until the wee small hours. Relaxation Techniques for Controlling Stress

Have you ever felt like there is no hope, no tomorrow, and maybe everything is coming down on you and you can’t get a way. This is stress. Stress when overwhelming is bad for you if you let it control your life. You have to step up and show stress that you have control.

Controlling stress:
Stress can become controlling. Stress will take over your mind and your health if you let it, it is hard to get out of it once you are over stressed. However, there is hope; you have to be strong and want to take charge of stress. In order to do this you have to find the underlying cause. Why are you feeling the way that you feel?

What problems are caused by stress?
Stress can cause mental and physical problems including high blood pressure, tightness of various body parts, headaches, aces and pains that haven’t been felt before, or even more sever cardio-vascular problems.

What to do:
Firstly, you have to decide that enough is enough and that you want to do something about the stress you have. There are many people or support organizations out there that could help you, but you are the one who has to make the decision and take action.

Start by keeping a note of how you feel at different times of the day and what the triggers were to that feeling. Over time you will start to see a pattern and be able to find out exactly what gives you more stress that something else. This can be something that happens at work, a particular person, giving a presentation, driving, a conversation you had, being bored, a late bill, money…anything.

The reality is that stress is caused when we are out of control of something that is going on around us that we cannot stop or are forced to do. It may be impossible to change the thing that causes the stress, and in this case, then we have to change the way we react to it or cope with it.

Exercise and doing something different are great ways to start to combat stress. When used in conjunction with a Relaxation Techniques audio programme, they give the ability to stop you thinking about the stressors, be relaxed, concentrate on yourself and feel good. Relaxing in this way is one of the most effective and simple ways of handling stress.

You need to exercise your mind, your body, your interest and your motivation – go on, do something new, something you always wanted to try. If you concentrate on something new, you will forget the stressors for a while. And then when you listen to your Relaxation Techniques audio system, it will be even more effective.
